Freescale's new tech to cut AC power to AC/DC adapter while it's idle
Freescale Semiconductor has announced a new patent pending power saving technology called "Watt Saver" technology to automatically cut no-load power consumption for AC adapters, the most common power electronic device found nearly in every household which are used for powering mobile phones, portable computers and any such portable electronic devices.
This hardware and software based solution from Freescale disconnects the main AC power source when no power is required by the connected device.
It is estimated the standby power saving will account to saving of terawatt hours of electrical energy.
Freecale says Watt Saver charging can be applied to a variety of charging products including mobile device chargers, extra power back-up chargers, wireless charging stations and AC powered equipment. With Freescale Watt Saver technology, a universal power adapter conforming to the ITU-T L.1000 recommended standard can be designed with a zero Watt, no -load power consumption and the eco-friendly charger uses no more energy than needed to charge its device and it has a longer useable life because it can potentially be used with any new device , claims Freescale.
