Carry your base station along with your phone
Ubiquisys has developed a personal tiny mobile base station called attocell which enables mobile calls to be made and received anywhere from the places outside their telecom service providers circles. This personal femtocell worked with any 3G phones including iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia and Android Smartphones. Ubiquisys is in discussion with mobile telecom service providers on their product.
The attocell works by connecting to any internet connected computer including notebooks and netbooks via USB port. By analyzing the IP address and radio environment to determine which country it is in, sets its 3G radio power accordingly below the licenced level. Its range will be just 5mm, but in some regions it could cover a whole room.
These cells are designed to continuously monitors its radio environment to ensure that there is zero impact on existing mobile networks, this and its very low power ability make it eligible to be exempt from regulatory controls and the requirement for type approval.
In 5mm mode, the user can put the phone on top of the device and the phone connects automatically, just like a regular femtocell. Calls can be made using a Bluetooth or wired headset, or by using the Phone's speaker.
