Occupancy sensing MCU from Zilog
Zilog, a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation has released new microcontroller called ZMOTION for occupancy detection used in applications such as customer sensing, lighting control and other energy management applications.
The Zilog ZMOTION MCU features embedded software and algorithms specifically designed for products requiring control based on Passive Infrared (PIR) motion detection. This device can be combined with a wide selection of lenses and Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors for wider range of applications.
The motion detection algorithms comprise the PIR engine and run in the background of the MCU while control and status of the engine is accessed through a software Application Programming Interface (API). The ZMOTION MCU allows users to create their own application-specific software while taking advantage of PIR motion-detection technology. ZMOTION PIR technology provides a dramatic improvement in both sensitivity and stability over traditional motion detection designs and is scalable to many market segments including lighting control especially suited for solar powered off grid motion activated LED lighting, HVAC control based on occupancy, access control (doors and gates), escalators, vending machines, displays, proximity activation, power management, occupancy sensing and many others.
“Zilog’s ZMOTION Occupancy Detection and Control product is paired with a new development kit that makes for quick and easy integration into custom designed applications. Our new ZMOTION product offers our customers dramatic improvements in both sensitivity and stability over traditional designs. With the ease of programming the well known Zilog MCU core, which has the longest history of a proven and rugged core, we provide a solution with a quick time to market for our customers,” said Steve Darrough, Zilog’s Director of Worldwide Marketing.
The Zilog ZMOTION Microcontroller featuring PIR Technology is currently in production.
