ST releases a single chip widescreen capacitive touchscreen controller for slim phones

STMicroelectronics has launched a single chip widescreen capacitive touchscreen controller for slim and smart smartphones. The S-Touch FingerTip controller offers true multi-touch capability with unlimited simultaneous touches. The FingerTip also enhances multi-touch actions such as pinch-to-zoom and supports stylus operations.

The S-Touch FingerTip controller's is a patented analog IP that provides a good signal-to-noise-ratio performance. This controller also offers a high number of channels, allowing high touch resolution. The device provides noise cancellation that enables this device to support the latest on-cell LCD technology without requiring a ground shielding layer between the display and the touch sensor, therefore enabling smartphones to have a thin touchscreen LCD module. The S-Touch FingerTip controller provides 288 (18 x 16) nodes and offers 8kV HBM ESD protection. Its ESD protection feature makes the S-Touch FingerTip touch controller ideal for use in consumer smartphones. The device also features auto-tuning and self-calibration features. The device comes in a 3mm x 3mm low-profile chip-size package.

Package: QFN 56 (7mm x 7mm) and an ultra-small flip-chip CSP 49 (3mm x 3mm).
