Exar releases BitWackr for Windows and Linux offering scalability of 250TB
Exar Corporation has unveiled the latest version of BitWackr for Windows and Linux, offering scalability to over 250TB. BitWackr 2.1 provides a developmental shortcut to incorporate data deduplication, compression and/or encryption features in their products.
According to Bob Farkaly, director of marketing, Storage Systems for Exar, "Exar's data reduction and security processors are the heart of all BitWackr products and provide the advanced CPU offload required to reduce latency and enable in-line data reduction and encryption without a performance penalty. Additionally, BitWackr-enabled volumes incorporate an end-to-end data integrity capability that operates throughout the data lifecycle. In the case of unexpected downtime, BitWackr can reconstruct volumes within minutes of the interruption, allowing enhanced data recovery, serviceability and fault resilience."
Exar's Virtual Block Device (VBD) technology allows BitWackr to remain transparent to applications, operating systems, file systems and volume managers enabling OEMs to incorporate BitWackr and offer a comprehensive suite of data reduction features. BitWackr 2.1 uses PCIe hardware acceleration technologies.
