New step down converter from TI for energy harvesting and low-power applications

Texas Instruments has released a buck type DC/DC converter for energy harvesting and low-power applications. The new TPS62120, what TI calls a ultra-low power converter delivers 96 percent efficiency, and can generate a 75mA output current from an input voltage of 2 V to 15 V. This device also supports 9 V and 12 V line-powered systems.

According to TI the TPS62120 synchronous converter features a power save mode reaching 75 percent efficiency at loads down to 100 uA. During light load operation, the device operates in a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode, consuming only 11 uA of quiescent current.

Package:
TPS62120: 8-pin, 3-mm x 3-mm SOT-23 package.
TPS62122 : 6-pin, 2-mm x 2-mm QFN package.

Price:
TPS62120 is US$0.95 for 1K pieces.
TPS62122 is US$1.05 for 1K pieces.
