Configurable bi-directional voltage translator for I2C interface apps
Fairchild Semiconductor has unveiled the FXMA2102, a high-performance configurable dual-voltage-supply translator for bi-directional voltage translation over a wide range of input and output voltages levels. This device is intended for use as a voltage translator in applications using the I2C bus interface. The input and output voltage levels are compatible with I2C device specification voltage levels. External pull-up resistors are required.
The FXMA2102 provides bi-directional interface between any two levels from 1.65V to 5.5V. The two ports of the device have auto-direction sensing capability, allowing either port to sense an input signal and transfer it as an output signal to the other port.
This device accommodates standard and fast I2C bus modes, and works as a translator, buffer and repeater. The FXMA2102 enable addional features such as non-preferential power-up, allowing either VCC to be powered-up first. Inputs and outputs track VCC levels, making the device fully configurable. Additionally, the open drain inputs/outputs allow the device to work in push-pull and open drain environments.
Fairchild claims FXMA2102 maximizes load capacitance on the I2C bus, offers lower power consumption than competitive devices and provides ESD protection of over 8kV HBM. The FXMA2102 is suggested for use in Smartphones, mobile phones, netbooks, smartbooks, mobile internet devices, portable medical devices and set-top-box designs.
