New N-channel schottky diode from Fairchild Semiconductor

Schottky diodes offer low junction voltage drop compared to normal diode due to which they are preferred in battery powered hand held applications to reduce the power consumption. Smart phones and any such handheld computing devices use LEDs for lighting of the LCD display and keyboard. The LEDs are powered by boost converters which use diodes. Fairchild has released a new device coded FDZ3N513ZT, an integrated N-Channel MOSFET and Schottky diode in a small 1mm x 1mm footprint for use in LED powering circuits in smart phones.

The FDZ3N513ZT offers typical input capacitance of 45pF and total gate charge of 1nC to improve efficiency in boost converter designs. This device is an integral element of the boost converter that drives white LEDs in a series string to illuminate the smartphone display (and keys, if a keypad is present).
