New device from ST integrates multiple functions on a single microphone interface chip

ST has released the EMIF02-MIC07F3, a device that integrates complete noise filtering, ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection and biasing for one microphone on a single IC occupying only 1.37mm2. ST says that this device answers the demand for smaller dimensions and extra functions in mobile devices such as smartphones and other portable devices. ST says this single chip replaces multiple discrete components that consume at least 20.8mm2 of space.

The EMIF02-MIC07F3 offers high capacitance density of 45nF by using PZT (Lead Zirconium Titanate) process. In addition, as all of the interface components are fabricated on a single chip, close matching between the capacitor and resistor values produces more repeatable performance than is possible with discrete components, says ST.

Package: Samples of EMIF02-MIC07F3 are available in 8-bump lead-free flip-chip IPAD package.

Price: The device will be priced at US$0.25 for 5000 unit quantities.
