Overvoltage and overcurrent protector from Linear for portable electronic devices
Linear has unveiled the LTC4362, a 2.5V to 5.5V overvoltage and overcurrent protector. It is designed to safeguard low voltage, portable electronic devices from damaging input voltage transients and current surges. Overvoltage occurs due to power adapter failure or when hot-plugging an AC adapter into a device's power input.
Some of the key features of LTC4362 are:
1) The device utilizes a 2% accurate 5.8V overvoltage threshold to detect an overvoltage event and respond within 1us (max) to isolate the downstream components from the input.
2) Enables overvoltage protection of up to 28V by using an internal, avalanche rated, low RDS(ON) MOSFET.
3) Does not require transient voltage suppressors (TVS) or other external components in most applications.
4) Provides 20% accurate, 1.5A overcurrent threshold by monitoring the voltage drop across an internal current sense resistor.
5) It is suggested for portable electronic devices with multiple power supply options, such as cell phones, MP3/MP4 players, digital cameras that charge via wall and car battery adapters and USB ports.
6) Controls an internal 40mOhm N-channel MOSFET to provide a low loss path from the input to the load.
7) Achieves inrush current limiting using a controlled gate voltage slew rate.
8) It features a soft shutdown controlled and provides a gate drive output for an optional external P-channel MOSFET for reverse voltage protection.
9) A power good output pin indicates gate turn on.
The LTC4362 is available in two options. They are:
--The LTC4362-1 latches off after an overcurrent event.
--The LTC4362-2 performs an auto-retry following a 130ms delay.
Both options automatically restart with a start-up delay on experiencing an overvoltage condition.
Package: 8-pin, 2mm x 3mm DFN
Price: It is priced at each US$1.60 for 1,000-piece quantities.
