IBM released new PowerPC processors and ASIC processor cores

IBM has improved the performance of power PC processor and reduced power consumption by half compared to its predecessors.

The new powerPC processor 750CL with 256KB L2 cache operates in the frequency range of 400MHZ to 1GHZ.
Applications: Networking storage, imaging, consumer electronic and other high performance embedded applications.

The other new powerPC 970GX is the improved version of power PC 970FX. This comes with the L2 cache of 1MB and operates at 1.2 to 2.5GHZ.
Applications: Communications, storage, multimedia and graphic based devices..

Along with these two, IBM also released CPC965 an I/O companion chip for 970 series of power PC processors. CPC 965 is to save power compared to other I/O bridge chips This chip is slated to be sampled in March 2007.

The two new processor cores released are ,
460S: synthesizable core, which gives flexibility to the designer in selecting cache memory size and processor local bus.
464FPH90: This is same as 464H90, but with double precision floating point unit.

Availability:
464FPH90: In 1st quarter 2007
460S: In 2nd quarter of 2007
