NXP offering new software for design power management systems based on NXP ICs

NXP Semiconductors has made available a new web-based design and monitoring solution for power supply design engineers who use NXP's power management ICs. The online tool PIP8000 allows to track, configure and sequence power supplies. NXP power IC users can also use this software tool to customize their design requirements virtually. Along with the real-time feedback facilities and diagnostics, the web tool allows to configure a power system in-line with PMBus command language and physical interface.

"We are the first in the industry to release this new online design tool as our customers are demanding significantly improved online services. It helps to keep development cycles as short as possible. In our efforts to support the complete design cycle, this is a great step forward" said Michel Claassens, Head of Global Brand Experience NXP Semiconductors.

The online design tool can be used to control and monitor the power management application. Using a wide range of PMBus commands the user can adjust voltage and current settings, control fan speed and monitor the power management system's thermal behaviour and logging power system parameters.

"NXP's PIP8000 is a powerful PMBus compliant power management supervisor IC," stated Edwin Kluter, Marketing Director of Power Solutions, NXP Semiconductors. "The new PIP8000 online interface further shows our commitment to providing our customers with leading online design support and technology. With the PMBus web design tool, our customers will be able to customize their design requirements virtually to significantly reduce the design time required."

The other features of this tool are:

Configurable GUI, (simulating PMBus host) which automatically locates all connected devices with verified NXP PIP8000 defaults

PMBus scripting and debug capabilities

Compliant to PMBus 1.1 command set

Support of linear and direct mode data formats, switched in real time

User commands and graph viewing includes: voltage, current, fans, and thermals

Fan controls allow switch-on/switch-off of up to two fans, as well as reading the fan speeds in RPM

The tool can be found on the NXP website: http://web.transim.com
