New HDMI transmitters with CEC controller offering size advantage

Analog Devices has launched ADV7523 and ADV7524, the new HDMI transmitters with physical dimensions of 3.5 mm × 3.5 mm × 0.65 mm. Analog Devices claims these are the industry's smallest and thinnest HDMI transmitters offering 20% smaller footprint compared to the others in the market.

The products suggested for these ICs are digital still and SLR cameras, camcorders, gaming consoles, portable media players, cell phones and mobile internet devices.

The key features of these transceivers are,

1. Has internal CEC controller
2. 5-volt tolerant I/Os that support I2C and HPD (Hot Plug Detect)
3. On-chip I2C master for EDID (extended display identification data) reading
4. Very low standby current better than any other such device in the industry
5. The ADV7523 and ADV7524 are pin- and software compatible
6. Support for HDTV video standards up to 1080p/30, 1080i/60, 720p/60 and computer graphics standards up to XGA at 75 Hz. The ADV7524 supports up to 1080p/60 display resolution
7. Support CEA-861-D, and DVI v1.0 (digital video interface)
8. Offer the option of embedded support for HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) processing
9. ADV7523 offers the optional use of 1.2 V for the digital core power
10 Audio support of S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) for LPCM (linear pulse code modulation) audio or compressed audio including Dolby Digital and DTS; and 2-channel I2S audio for transmitting stereo at sample rates of up to 192 kHz.
