New Power-over-Ethernet controllers from Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments has made available Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) controller TPS23754 for 26-watt powered device (PD) applications, where the DC electrical power for running the Ethernet connected end-equipment is drawn power from the Ethernet cable-side. Such latest applications include VoIP phones, wireless (WiMAX, WLAN) access points and security cameras.
This PoE controller is compliant with IEEE 802.3at draft 4.0 standards. TPS23754 supports DC/DC converter topologies of 90 % power conversion efficiency.

TI is also sampling two more ICs along with the above one. They are,
a. The TPS23756 supports auxiliary input voltages down to 12 V, allowing a PoE designer to use widely available 12-V wall adapters.

b. The new TPS23757 will support 13-W and below applications requiring the higher efficiency DC/DC topologies.

The other common features are:
1. Complementary auxiliary driver with programmable dead-time
2. PD controller supports up to 825-mA continuous current
3. Power source selection priority
4. Current and inrush limit

Package: HTSSOP-20

Price: TPS23754: Each $1.90 for 1K pieces (Available now)
TPS23756: Each $1.90 for 1K pieces (Available in 3rd Quarter of 2009)
