PoE SoC for Internet Protocol based terminal equipments
Akros Silicon has released new AS1854, quoted by company as the industry's first Power over Ethernet (PoE), Power System-on-a-Chip (Power SoC) with 2kV integrated isolation for use in Internet Protocol (IP) based telecom and consumer systems such as VoIP phones, IP cameras, wireless access points (WAP), Thin Client terminals, and WiMAX CPEs.
The features and specialties of AS1854 are,
1. No opto-couplers are required
2. Better integration of functions compared the present devices, which require nine more discrete devices to do the same task. Functions integrated include IEEE 802.3af/at PD controller and quadoutput digital power DC-DC converters.
3. Features cross-isolation DC-DC timing management and digital power control.
4. Offer diagnostic features and high-voltage telemetry features allowing remote power management and IT servicing of devices.
"Energy management plays an increasingly integral role in IT services, with a tremendous demand from enterprises to reduce energy consumption and to extend intelligence of remote network management to power subsystems," said Parviz Ghaffaripour, CEO of Akros Silicon. "The new AS1854's GreenEdge isolation technology enables complete remote monitoring and control of IP appliance power subsystems, making network-based energy management a practical reality. The AS18x4 products allow our customers to create a value-added and differentiated feature set in a cost-effective manner-and to pass on the recurring energy-saving benefits to their end customers."
AS18x4 product family includes the AS1854, AS1844, AS1834 and AS1824.
