Kit to evaluate touch sensor interface on PIC MCUs

Microchip has launched an evaluation kit to test and develop touch sensor interface using Microchip's 8- and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers (MCUs).
This kit called mTouch has,
1. 8-bit PIC16F72X microcontroller based board, and16-bit PIC24F256GB110 microcontroller based board.
2. Four daughter boards for developing capacitive-touch keys, sliders and a matrix.
3. A PICkit Serial Analyzer
4. An easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI)
5. Source code and schematic circuit diagram examples.
6. Provides option to try different keypad configurations, and experiment with touch-pad sizes and shapes using motherboards.

Touch-sensing technology is quickly replacing the mechanical and other electric contact based switch interface in most of the portable and handheld systems. Market researchers have predicted the global shipments of touch screen display modules are expected to grow more than 100% from year 2008 to 2012. The advantages of touch interface both in aesthetics as well as long-life gives it a significant market growth.
