LED drivers for high brightness LEDs for architectural lighting

Exar has launched XRP7603 and XRP7604 LED drivers to drive high power, high brightness LEDs up to 0.5Amp and 1Amp respectively. These devices complement and are pin-to-pin compatible with Exar's SP7600 rated at 2Amp. With a 4.5V to 29V operating input voltage range these LED drivers can support most retail and architectural lighting systems, which typically use 12V or 24V power sources. Exar suggests these devices for consumer electronics devices such as LED compact projectors.

"The XRP7603 and XRP7604 are designed to meet the needs of the latest high current LEDs," said David Matteucci, vice president, Power Management Products. "Leveraging the success of Exar's SP7600 announced in February 2008, the XRP7603 and XRP7604 provide system architects and designers with a single scalable design solution capable of seamlessly supporting many LED lighting applications from 500mA to 2A."

These LED driver ICs operating at a frequency of 1.2MHz offer efficiency up to 95%. Dynamic brightness control is achieved through a PWM or analog dimming scheme. Protection features include a programmable over current and under voltage lockout protection.
