Optocoupler with high noise immunity for fieldbus communications
Fairchild Semiconductor's new optocoupler FOD8001 features low transmission error rates, low system failure rates and high reliability. Fairchild uses coplanar packaging technology called Optoplanar, where integrated circuits and light emitting diode (LED) are assembled on a coplanar process, rather than a face-to-face or over-under process to reduce package capacitance between input and output and improving noise immunity. It features 25kV/µs@1,500Vcm dynamic Common Mode Transient Immunity (CMTI) rating under high-speed optocoupler switching and 40kV/µs@1,000Vcm static CMTI, making it more resilient to noise.
Its high bandwidth of 25Mbps and tight pulse width distortion of 6 nanoseconds makes it highly suitable for field bus communications in automation technology such as Profibus, DeviceNet, CAN, Modbus, Interbus and many other standards. FOD8001 operates from a supply voltage of 3V to 5.5V. The FOD8001 operating temperature range is -40ºC to +105ºC.
