Low power, precision SAR ADC for high-density multi-channel applications

Texas Instruments has released ADS795x family of low power, precision SAR analog-to-digital converter (ADC) family in a small form factor. These devices provide excellent linearity and AC performance for high-density applications and are optimized to deliver maximum performance in battery and low-voltage applications, such as handheld medical instruments, programmable logic controllers and digital power supplies. The ADS795x family includes a high degree of integration such as GPIO, programmable alarm thresholds, on board sequencer, and an SPI compatible interface to minimize board space requirements and simplify connectivity and software on the host device.

Key specifications and features:

1. Precision SAR converter performance of 12-bit / 1 MSPS, +/-1 LSB max INL, +/-1 LSB max DNL and 70 db MIN SNR
2. Flexible digital supply of 1.8 V to 5.25 V and an analog supply of 2.7 V to 5.25 V
3. Flexible muxed inputs - 4-channel ADS7950, 8-channel ADS7951, 12-channel ADS7952 and 16 channel ADS7953
4. Programmable thresholds and alarm per channel with GPIO and hardware interrupt function
5. Devices works well with a high performance amplifier such as OPA365, or a programmable-gain amplifier like PGA112
