Tiny secure Digital (SD)/MultiMedia Card (MMC) level shifter

TI has released a new level translator/shifter to bridge the gap between two different voltage nodes while maintaining digital switching compatibility. The integrated Secure Digital (SD)/MultiMedia Card (MMC) level shifter, introduced by Texas Instruments features translator's auto-direction circuitry to simplify board design by eliminating the need for customers to program a General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) on a processor for direction control and thereby reduces the number of required pins. TI said, highly integrated features of the TXS0206, packaged in a 2 mm x 1.6 mm wafer chip-scale package (WCSP), eliminate the need for more than 10 external discrete components and reduce overall system cost in consumer electronics, such as mobile handsets, digital cameras and portable navigation devices.

TXS0206 features:

1. Clock frequencies up to 52 MHz
2. Data rates up to 60 Mbps
3. Supports 1.2-V, 1.5-V, 1.8-V, 2.5-V, and 3.3-V power-supply voltages
4. Built-in IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection
5. Data line EMI filter circuitry
6. Integrated SD-compliant pull-up resistors

Pricing and availability

The TXS0206 is available now in a 20-bump WCSP package. Suggested resale pricing in 1000-unit quantities is $0.99. Additional family members, including integrated 1.8-V or 2.9-V CMOS LDO voltage regulators to power SD/MMC memory cards, will be available in 1H 2009.
