Integrated battery charger for cell phones and bluetooth devices
ISL9222A from Intersil is a high input, single cell, Li-Ion battery charger IC designed to detect auxiliary and external power connections in mobile devices. The ISL9222A combines charger, comparator and logic on a single device, providing maximum over-voltage protection with minimum footprint.
The ISL9222A accepts an input voltage up to 28V, but is disabled when the input voltage exceeds the over-voltage protection threshold (typically 7.2V) in order to prevent excessive power dissipation.
Some of the key features are:
1. The 28V rating eliminates the over-voltage protection circuit required with a low input voltage charger.
2. The charge current is user-programmable with an external resistor. When the battery voltage is lower than 2.55V, the charger preconditions the battery with 20% of the programmed charge current.
3. Features a thermal fold-back function that protects the charger from over-temperature conditions.
4. Has voltage accuracy of 1%.
5. An indication pin (PPR) allows simple interface to a microprocessor or LED.
6. When there is no adapter attached to the charger or when the charger is disabled, the IC draws less than 1 ľA leakage current from the battery.
