Broadcom's single-chip multimode residential gateway solution BCM6368
Broadcom launched the new single-chip multimode residential gateway solution, BCM6368. This new generation of xDSL customer premises equipment (CPE) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution supports ADSL2+ or VDSL2. It finds applications in the industry addressing all aspects of digital subscriber line (DSL)-based services including Wi-Fi, voice over IP (VoIP), Ethernet switching and IPTV.
The device combines a VDSL2/ADSL2+ transceiver and analog front end (AFE) with a multi-core MIPS32 CPU, ATM/PTM hardware SAR, hardware packet processing accelerator, Gigabit Ethernet switch core with four 10/100 Ethernet physical layer devices and dual GMII interfaces, and support for dual USB host/device connections.
It holds some key features which are given below:
1. Uses Broadcom's new impulse noise protection technology
2. Multi-port Ethernet switching for video over DSL services
3. Non-blocking 802.11n
4. Multi-line VoIP capabilities.
5. Incorporates MIPS-based applications processor with hardware-assisted wire-speed bridging and routing, & hardware-assisted IPsec acceleration for virtual private network (VPN) termination,
6. Support for USB 2.0 host and devices.
7. Its ADSL2+ fallback capability, enables carriers to deploy products in an ADSL2+ capacity and then remotely upgrade them to VDSL2 as their infrastructures allow.
8. The VDSL2/ADSL2+ transceiver delivers bandwidth of 100 Mbps downstream and 100 Mbps upstream, service for IPTV video, dual latency framing, DSL channel bonding, and embedded operation channels for remote management of the CPE.
Availability: The BCM6368 is now sampling to early access customers.
