Cypress combines PSoC and non-volatile SRAM technologies

Cypress Semiconductor launched a new family of device, PSoC NV, which integrates a non-volatile static random access memory (NV-SRAM) and a programmable system on chip (PSoC). New family unites unlimited read, write and recall endurance of nvSRAMs with flexibility and integration of PSoC architecture controlled by an on-chip microcontroller in a single package.

The new devices find applications requiring continuous data logging from sensors, analog, and digital inputs. The devices have an analog front-end that can simultaneously sample up to 8 inputs from sensors and analog sources and store the data in the embedded nvSRAM. Regular operation accesses are directed to an SRAM array and automatically secured into a non-volatile quantum trap cell in case of power failure. This data can be recalled on power up.

The features include:

1. A 64-, 128- or 256-Kbyte nvSRAM with a throughput of up to 100 KBPS.
2. An M8C-based core with speeds up to 24 MHz.
3. 32 Kbytes Flash and 2 Kbytes SRAM.
4. 12 analog blocks that can be programmed to create an ADC, DAC and comparator.
5. 16 digital blocks that can be programmed to create timers, counters, PWM, UART and SPI.
6. Programmable GPIOs.
7. An I2C interface
8. Watchdog and sleep timers
9. On-chip precision voltage reference.
10. 3.3V operation
11. Operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
12. Have a 20-year data retention capability.
13. Demonstration kit & evaluation kit are also available.

The devices can perform a host of applications such as voltage monitoring, voltage sequencing, thermal management, on-board diagnostics, power management, fan control, industrial data logging, and sequence-of-events monitoring.

Packaging: 100-pin TQFP package.

Availability: The 3.3V CY8CNP102B device is now sampling with full production
expected in Q4 2008.
The PSoC NV Evaluation Kit will be available in October 2008.
PSoC NV Demonstration Kit will be available in November 2008.
