Austria Microsystems' new linear hall-effect sensor ICs AS5304 & AS5306
Austria micro-systems introduced new linear Hall sensor ICs AS5304 and AS5306. These can be used as start & play incremental linear magnetic encoder ICs for motion control applications. The new device is an alternative solution to optical encoders to meet reliability challenges associated with harsh environments, which can be used in a variety of motion sensing applications found in medical, industrial and consumer products.
The main similarity between the traditional optical sensors used for motion control applications and the new hall sensor IC is that both of them provide incremental A & B quadrature output signals with 160 steps per magnet pole pair, and an index pulse that is applied once every pole pair.
Features include:
1. Require no configuration or calibration by the host controller after power up or during operation.
2. Encoders intended for linear as well as rotary off axis motion sensing applications.
3. Immune to impacts by dirt, dust and grime contaminants, where the traditional optical encoder sensors fail to do so.
4. The AS5304 and AS5306 ICs can provide resolutions of 25µm and 15µm, respectively.
5. Are specified to operate at 5V
6. Operating temperature range of -40C to +125C
Package: 20-lead TSSOP
