New wide dynamic range CMOS image sensor from TI

Texas Instruments announced the availability of a high sensitivity wide dynamic range CMOS image sensor TC922 for the video surveillance camera applications. It offers high image quality with improved bright and low-light performance, exceeding conventional CCD sensors.

Some of the main features include

1. SVGA resolution of 800 x 600, which is well above that of conventional CCTV cameras in both horizontal and vertical lines.
2. Contains a high response amplifier in the pixel and "Reset Noise Reduction" circuit that provides CCD-level high sensitivity and high SNR, which has not been achieved by conventional CMOS sensors.
3. The wide dynamic range capability allows for the capture of high resolution, more detailed images in high-contrast lighting conditions.
4. The dynamic range also enables it to provide complete information even in environments with severe variations in illumination.
5. Each pixel has a photodiode and a Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC), which can hold a large number of photoelectrons for very bright lighting conditions.
6. The LOFIC technology enables the sensor's dynamic range to reach 94 dB.
7. The electron well capability of TC922 is superior to conventional CCD sensors.
8. Does not generate a synthetic gap problem, which can be seen in CCD systems.
