High-voltage gate driver IC FAN7387 for ballast and SMPS from Fairchild

Fairchild semiconductor introduced new high-voltage gate driver IC FAN7387 with self-oscillation and external pin for dead-time control. The external dead-time control helps the designers to choose the optimum dead time to reduce power loss on switching devices.
This device finds applications in SMPS, half-bridge inverter and ballast for high intensity discharge lamp, and fluorescent lamp.
The chip is designed with an innovative noise canceling technique and features high-side driver operation with negative Vs swings up to -9.8V. This feature protects the IC from negative noise and makes it more noise immune.
The FAN7387 is the industry's only high-voltage gate driver (HVIC) with an external pin for dead-time control, providing engineers with excellent design flexibility, Fairchild said.

Other features include:

1. Internal shunt regulator
2. UVLO (Under Voltage Lock Out) function, high & low side
3. External pin for shut down (disable mode)
4. Dead time control using resistor
5. External synch function using timing resistors & capacitors (RCT).
6. Frequency variation is stable across a wide temperature range
7. Low quiescent current (only 220ľA) in standby mode
8. Ambient temperature range of -40 to +125
