Tegra: the world's single chip computer.
NVIDIA Corporation released to the market a new family of processors called Tegra to handle all the functions of a PC but for hand-held pocket devices. NVIDIA's Tegra is a tiny computer-on-a-chip designed to enable the PC experience on a new generation of mobile computing gadgets.
This product was designed by keeping in view of new growing market of mobile centric personal computing. Addressing the power consumption is a big challenge while designing this chip.
The two presently available members of Tegra family are, Tegra 650 processor and Tegra APX 2500 processor.
These devices begin the era of smart-chips for smart-phones for smart people.
NVIDIA Tegra is heterogeneous processor architecture with multiple processors for each specific class of tasks. The processor packed in are, 800 MHz ARM CPU, HD video processor, imaging processor, audio processor, and ultra-low power GeForceŽ GPU
With so many processors on board, making use of collective processing power to deliver required performance but at very less power might make this product a success.
The other features of NVIDIA Tegra 650 are:
All-day media (audio and video) processing
Hardware support for Web 2.0 applications
Display support for 1080p HDMI, WSXGA+ LCD and CRT, and NTSC/PAL TV-Out
Direct support for WiFi, disk drives, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals
A complete Board Support Package (BSP) to enable fast times to market for Windows Mobile-based designs
