New acceleration sensors from ST Microelectronics for a range of creative applications
ST Micro's new acceleration sensor LIS302ALK, packed in 5 x 3 x 0.9 mm plastic package provides full scale output range +/- 2.0 g. In power down mode. It consumes 1 micro amps of supply current and has in-built self test feature to ensure sensor functioning.
The acclleration sensor market is mainly driven by automotives but the creativity of an engineer can put acceleration sensor into many more intersting applications and the market is growing at more than 20%.
The applications suggested for this device are, shock sensing in ultra-featured portable electronics gadgets mainly laptops, vibration monitoring and compensation circuits(Adjust the shock adsorber levels in Automotives), accident safety equipments, power activation device in remote control, and motion user interface in mobile and gaming devices,
Many electronic systems need not work while they are placed static, in such cases this device can be used to power down the systems during no-use mode.
