Dual-band CDMA power amplifier from Anadigics for mobile handsets

Anadigics has introduced the AWC6323, a new dual-band CDMA power amplifier (PA) that contains independent RF PA paths to ensure optimal performance in both frequency bands, while achieving a 25% PCB space savings compared with solutions requiring two single-band PAs. The AWC6323 is suitable for CDMA mobile handsets and data cards.

The key features of the AWC6323 PA are,

InGaP HBT technology
High efficiency of 38 % at +27.6 dBm, 22 % at +16 dBm, and 11 % at +10 dBm
<4 mA of low quiescent current
Internal voltage regulation
Built-in directional coupler
Common VMODE control line
Simplified VCC bus PCB routing
Reduced external component count
RoHS compliant package, 260 ºC MSL-3

Anadigics says, the AWC6323 offers 3 mode states to achieve high power added efficiencies at several power levels during the phone operation. It also helps reduce the idle current of the power amplifier to 3.5mA for a CDMA power amplifier. This helps in increasing the talk time performance of the handset without the need for a DC-DC converter.
