Deep Packet Inspection protocol software from Cavium for 3G/4G core networks
Cavium Networks has made available DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) Protocol Software toolkit that utilizes extensive hardware acceleration in OCTEON Plus Multi-core MIPS processors, NITROX DPI Processors and OCTEON II processors to deliver high performance which scales up to 40Gbps. The new DPI toolkit is suitable for 3G/4G Core networks, wireless and storage infrastructure equipment applications.
The DPI protocol software consists of carrier-grade, protocol detection software which can be utilized inline or out of band to detect hundreds of protocols including Internet (HTTP, FTP etc), Email (IMAP, POP3, SMTP etc.,), Web 2.0 (Facebook, Myspace etc), Multimedia (Flash, Quicktime, Youtube etc), Peer to Peer (Bittorrent, eDonkey etc) and Voice and Messaging (Skype, GoogleTalk, Yahoo etc).
Cavium's DPI software is high flexible, upgradeable and customizable and includes configurable detection engines for signature, heuristics and ports, supports flow based detection. It is easily extensible via customer plug-ins during design stage or in the field.
Core equipment can integrate this DPI protocol solution to enable a variety of features such as subscriber charging, application aware QOS and service level agreements, usage monitoring and preventing denial of service.
