4MHz, synchronous buck regulator IC from Linear for Li-on battery-powered devices
Linear has introduced the LTC3604, a new high efficiency, 4MHz monolithic synchronous buck regulator that incorporates a unique constant frequency/controlled on-time, current mode architecture capable of supplying up to 2.5A of output current and low output voltage down to 0.6V. The LTC3604 regulator IC is suitable for the applications such as distributed power systems, lithium-ion battery-powered instruments, and point-of-load power supplies.
The key features of the LTC3604 regulator IC are,
Operating input voltage ranges from 3.6V to 15V
2.5A of output current
Uses internal switches with RDS (ON) of 00mOhms and 130mOhms to deliver 95% of efficiency
Low duty cycle operation 5% at 2.25MHz
800kHz to 4MHz of adjustable switching frequency
External frequency synchronization
Current mode operation for line and load transient response
User selectable low ripple (20mVP-P typical)
Burst mode (No Load IQ = 300ľA)
Other features of the LTC3604 regulator IC include a power good voltage monitor, output voltage tracking capability, and short circuit protection.
The LTC3604 can be externally synchronized over the same frequency range. An internal phase-locked loop aligns the on-time of the top power MOSFET to the internal or external clock. This unique constant frequency/ controlled on-time architecture is suitable for high step-down ratio applications with high switching frequencies and fast transient response.
