New reference design to upgrade wireless networks for high bandwidth smartphone apps
A new reference design from Zarlink Semiconductor that integrates its Timing over Packet (ToP) products with communications processors from Freescale to simplify and speed up the development of new equipment for wireless networks to support bandwidth-intense smartphone applications.
Zarlink says, high bandwidth, low cost packet infrastructures to backhaul traffic is acheived across the wireless networks by incorporating its IEEE 1588 Timing over Packet (ToP) products. Major equipment suppliers who represent more than 50 percent of the Ethernet wireless backhaul market are using the ToP products.
"There is ramping demand for our Timing over Packet products and software, as carriers migrate to packet networks to efficiently and cost-effectively support new high-bandwidth smartphone applications," said Louise Gaulin, Product Line Director of Zarlink's Timing and Synchronization products. "The ZLE30320 reference design combines Zarlink's IEEE 1588 Timing over Packet products with industry-leading communications processors from Freescale Semiconductor to provide a complete synchronization solution for packet network equipment. With our technology, wireless operators can deploy packet networks to efficiently deliver new revenue-generating, data-intense smartphone applications and maintain service quality for traditional voice services."
"Zarlink's comprehensive reference design helps customers speed new equipment design for a rapidly growing market," said Nikolay Guenov, Growth Segments Marketing Manager for Freescale's Network Processor Division. "Combining our feature-rich MPC8313 PowerQUICC processor with Zarlink's leading timing and synchronization expertise provides a low cost solution for high performance IEEE 1588 applications."
