Twelve new 16-bit MCUs with USB 2.0 functionality from NEC Electronics

NEC Electronics has made available twelve new 16-bit All Flash microcontrollers (MCUs) with built-in Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 function and features low power consumption. The twelve new MCUs include six 48-pin MCUs (78K0R/KC3-L) and six 64-pin MCUs (78K0R/KE3-L), which are suitable for consumer electronics devices such as digital audio visual (A/V), healthcare, and factory automation (FA) equipment such as measurement systems appliances.

The key features of the new MCUs are,

Offers USB-function driver to handle device-specific functionality and other related tasks
Low standby-power consumption of 1.2 microwatts (µW), the MCUs also enable a low-active CPU-operation power consumption of 20 milliwatts (mW) at 20 megahertz (MHz)
7 times enhanced performance from the 8-bit MCUs.
Wide mix of peripherals such as 10-bit A/D converters, 16-bit timers, real-time clock, Watch-dog timer, 16-bit pulse-modulator (PWM), I²C (inter-integrated circuit) and UARTs

Price: Resale price from $3.40 to $4.55 for 10k pieces, depending on memory size, package and peripherals
Availability: Now in samples, in mass production from second quarter of 2010
