Dual-channel synchronous buck converter IC with integrated FETs from TI

Texas Instruments has introduced the TPS54290, a new 12-V dual-output fully synchronous SWIFT converter power management IC with integrated FETs capable of supporting applications with a minimal number of external components. The TPS54290 buck converter is suitable for Set Top Box, Digital TV, Power for DSP, and Consumer Electronics applications.

The SWIFT device supports output voltages at 0.8 V with a 90 percent power efficiency rating. The TPS54290 is set at a fixed frequency of 300 kHz. Two other family members, the TPS54291 and TPS54292, provide switching frequencies of 600 kHz and 1.2 MHz, further reducing the DC/DC solution size.

The key features of the TPS54290 buck converter are,

Operating input voltage ranges from 4.5 V to 18 V
1.5-A/2.5-A converter simplifies power design in consumer electronics with a 12-V power supply
Integrated UVLO
0.8 VREF With 1% Accuracy (0°C to 85°C)
Dual PWM outputs 180° out-of-phase
Dedicated Enable for each channel
Pulse-by-Pulse overcurrent protection, 2.2 A/3.8 A overcurrent limit
Integrated bootstrap switch
Thermal shutdown protection at 145°C

Current mode control simplifies the compensation. The external compensation adds flexibility to choose different type of output capacitors.
