New XMC Mezzanine Card Interposer from LeCroy for PCI Express 2.0 Analysis

LeCroy has introduced the VITA 42, a new PCI Express 2.0 switched mezzanine card (XMC) interposer for the Summit PCI Express Protocol Analyzer product line. This new XMC interposer provides a probe to analyze data traffic from an XMC module that uses a PCI Express interface to connect to the carrier board system. The suggested applications for the XMC module are high resolution graphics display controllers, storage and networking interfaces for military, and aerospace systems.

The VITA 42 Switched Mezzanine Card (XMC) has a small form-factor mezzanine I/O card with a high-speed connector that supports multiple fabric types (including PCI Express) for the embedded board market.

The LeCroy XMC Interposer Card supports PCI Express data channels with lane widths up to x8 at data rates up to 5 GT/s. PCI Express protocol analyzers are tools for identifying, diagnosing and solving the interoperability issues typically encountered when system integrators verify COTS XMC modules in their VXS/VPX-based systems, including problems such as inconsistent card initialization, poor I/O performance, and power up issues.

"The new XMC interposer from LeCroy is the kind of tool we need to insure reliable and dependable operation as we transition to high speed serial mezzanine architectures," said Ray Alderman, Executive Director of VITA. "Protocol analyzers from LeCroy support the higher speeds of PCI Express and have the right connectivity to XMC, VXC and VPX platforms in order to make protocol debugging and performance test possible."

"LeCroy is adding another probing tool to help COTS system developers who are working with VXS/VPX systems and XMC mezzanine cards. Previously, LeCroy introduced a PCIe Gen1 version of this tool into the XMC developer community. Today we are supporting PCIe Gen2 developers with a complete PCIe Gen2 analyzer and XMC mezzanine card probing solution," said John Wiedemeier, Product Marketing Manager, LeCroy. "Working closely with our customers helps us to provide the right products at the right time in our customer's development cycles."

LeCroy says, all its protocol analyzers feature a hierarchical display, real-time statistics, protocol traffic summaries, detailed error reports, powerful scripting, and the ability to create user-defined test reports, which allow developers to troubleshoot intricate problems and finish their projects on time.
