40V, 1MHz synchronous step-down DC-DC controller from Maxim

Maxim has introduced the MAX15046, a new 40V-input synchronous step-down DC-DC controller that provides robust protection in harsh operating environments, and suitable for industrial power supplies, PLCs (programmable logic controllers), CNC (computer numerical control) systems, industrial computers, and base station applications.

The key features of the MAX15046 DC-DC controller are,

Operating input voltage ranges from 4.5V to 40V or 5V ±10%
Adjustable outputs from 0.85 times the Input Voltage to 0.6V
Adjustable switching frequency (100kHz to 1MHz) with ±10% (1MHz) accuracy
Adaptive internal digital soft-start
Up to 25A of output capability
Cycle-by-Cycle valley-mode current limit with adjustable, temperature-compensated threshold (30mV to 300mV)
Monotonic startup into prebiased output
±1% of accurate voltage reference
3A of peak gate drivers
Hiccup-mode short-circuit protection (patent-pending architecture)
Overtemperature shutdown
Power-Good (PGOOD) output and enable input (EN) with ±5% accurate threshold

The MAX15046's current-limit architecture provides temperature-compensated, lossless current sensing across the low-side MOSFET. This architecture protects the DC-DC components from damage during output-overload or short-circuit conditions without requiring a current-sense resistor. The current-limit algorithm ensures monotonic turn-on into the prebiased bus, while adaptive internal digital soft-start reduces the input inrush current. The MAX15046 also includes an enable input with a precise reference and power-good output to simplify power sequencing. Internal thermal shutdown provides an additional layer of protection.
