20mV high-integrated DC/DC step-up converter for energy harvesting apps

Linear has introduced the LTC3108, a new high integrated DC/DC converter that is suitable for harvesting and managing surplus energy from low input voltage sources such as TEG (thermoelectric generators), thermopiles and small solar cells.

The key features of the LTC3108 step-up converter are,

Operating input voltage from 20mV
Complete energy harvesting power management system
Logic controlled switched output
Reserve energy output
Uses compact step-up transformer

Using a small step-up transformer, the LTC3108 provides a complete power management solution for wireless sensing and data acquisition. The 2.2V LDO powers an external microprocessor, while its main output is pin selectable to one of four (2.35V, 3.3V, 4.1V or 5V) fixed voltages to power a wireless transmitter or sensors. The power good indicator signals that the main output voltage is within regulation. A second output can be enabled by the host. A storage capacitor provides power when the input voltage source is unavailable.

The LTC3108's low quiescent current (<6ľA) and high efficiency design ensure the fast possible charge times for the output reservoir capacitor.

Package:
LTC3108: Small 12-Lead (3mm × 4mm) DFN or 16-Lead SSOP package
Price: Starts at each $2.95 for 1k pieces
LTC3108IDE and LTC3108IGN: Starts at each $3.45 for 1k pieces
