Switched mode power supply controller IC from NXP for notebook/netbook adapters

NXP Semiconductor has launched the GreenChip TEA1733 (L), a new low cost Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) controller IC intended for flyback topologies. The TEA1733 (L) IC increases energy efficiency and standby performance of power supplies under 75W, and suitable for low-power computing and communication applications such as netbook adapters, printer adapter and LCD monitor supplies.

TEA1733 is the first member a complete series of low-power AC/DC control ICs to be launched over the next year by NXP.

The key features of the TEA1733 (L) IC are,

Operating input voltage ranges from 12 V to 30 V
Typically 10-uA low supply current during start-up and restart
Low supply current during normal operation (typically 0.5 mA without load)
Overpower or high/low line compensation
Adjustable overpower time-out, overpower restart timer
Fixed switching frequency with frequency jitter to reduce EMI
Slope compensation for CCM operation
Low and adjustable OverCurrent Protection (OCP) trip level
Adjustable soft start
Two protection inputs (e.g. for input UVP and OVP, OTP and output OVP)
IC overtemperature protection

The GreenChip family of ICs is designed for energy saving and has, from its inception, led PC, notebook power efficiency.

"With the demand for sleek, light and compact designs increasing by the day, the TEA1733 enables consumers to experience lighter and more compact netbook adapters that save money and consume less power," said Edwin Kluter, marketing director, power solutions, NXP Semiconductors. "The GreenChip TEA1733 enables new levels of energy efficiency in low-power applications. By reducing the number of external components needed, the TEA1733 allows OEMs to become more cost competitive while maintaining a high degree of quality and reliability."
