16-bit secure microcontrollers with MIFARE Plus support for electronic ID cards
Renesas has announced the development of the RS-4 Dual Interface Series of high-performance 16-bit secure MCUs with Dual Interface and MIFARE Plus S Support for multifunction smart cards for financial and ID applications
The new MCUs with high-performance RS-4 CPU core and contact/contactless dual interface are intended for smart card applications requiring multifunction and high security, such as financial services cards issued by banks or credit card companies and ID cards. The first products in the series will be the RS44X, RS45X, and RS46X.
The RS44X, RS45X, and RS46X retain the capabilities of the AE45X and AE45X1, which are built around Renesas Technology's AE-4 CPU core and provide dual interface, while adding improved performance, multifunctionality, and enhanced security.
The differences of these three devices are the on-chip EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory) size and embedded mask ROM size. The S44X, RS45X, and RS46X incorporate 18K, 36K, and 72K byte EEPROM, respectively.
The suggested applications of these MCUs include smart cards such as ATM cards, credit cards, ID cards, multi-application cards, etc., and also embedded devices such as encryption processing modules and authentication modules.
