Catalyst semiconductor adds 5 new 32-tap Digitally Programmable Potentiometers.
These new potentiometers from Catalyst are silicon based and offer a user-friendly up/down interface. The CAT5123, CAT5124 and CAT5125 are volatile type and offer pin-for-pin replacements for Maxim's MAX5466, MAX5467 and MAX5468 devices.
The CAT5127 and CAT5129 features on chip, non-volatile, EPROM memory by which if the designers once calibrate can retain the memory settings even if power is lost. The wiper can be preset to any position on the device and when power up the wiper go to the preset position. They offer pin-for-pin replacements for Intersil's X93154.
These are small in size and are best suited for LCD screen adjustment, automated calibration, contrast, brightness and volume control, gain adjustment, line impedance matching, mechanical potentiometer replacement in handheld and other space-constrained applications. They offer low noise, insensitive to mechanical vibrations, shock, oxidation, and best alternatives to DACs and mechanical potentiometers.
