Integrated PMIC with boost regulator and VCOM calibrator for notebook LCDs
Maxim has brought to the market MAX17088, a power-management IC (PMIC), which integrates a boost regulator, a programmable VCOM calibrator with nonvolatile memory, a high-current operational amplifier, and a level shifting scan driver for notebook laptop LCD panels.
This PMIC developed by using a high-voltage BiCMOS process includes all functions required to power the LCD source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane. Through this high level of integration, the MAX17088 provides a cost-effective power solution for LCD panels in notebooks and monitors.
The boost regulator has a 1.2MHz switching frequency and integrates a 20V, 150mO power MOSFET and it delivers output voltages up to 18V from a 1.8V to 5.5V input .The integrated operational amplifier drives the VCOM backplane and features ±150mA short-circuit current with a 40V/µs slew rate. The MAX17088 also integrates a scan driver that drives from -25V to +45V and allows output charge sharing to save power. The 2-wire, I²C-controlled VCOM calibrator provides 7-bit setting accuracy and minimizes connector pin count.
