Power supply circuit reference design with 85-265V input to deliver 5 V @ 0.6 Amps
Power Integrations is offering a DC power supply reference design DER-227 for driving a 3W load at output voltage of 5 Volts and operates from a wide input voltage of 85V to 265 V AC. The key specialty of this design is, this design consumes a less standby power of only 10 milli Watts making this design compliant with European Union's Ecodesign Directive for Energy-Using Products (EuP).
This reference design based on Power Integrations' LNK363DN IC, require 3-4 aluminum electrolytic capacitor and a transformer close to a size of typical aluminum electrolytic capacitor. The complete design can easily fit into plastic enclosures of mobile phone chargers/adapters.
Reference design paper provides the power supply specification, schematic/circuit diagram, bill of materials (BOM), transformer documentation, printed circuit layout (PCB), and performance data.
The designers of external adapters/chargers used in mobile phones or such sub 5watts electronics devices whose need to be powered from a input voltage of 110V, 220V, 230V AC mains power line can adopt this design with a bit of design tweaking to get the required current and voltage specifications.
