HD cable set-top-box SoC chip with integrated MoCA from Broadcom for North America

Broadcom has announced that its new set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions offer the latest interactive HDTV programming, connectivity, whole-home media distribution and advanced 3D user interfaces to the North American market.

The new Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA)-integrated BCM7125 and BCM7119 single-chip, multi-format HD DOCSIS 2.0 compatible solutions with advanced functionality and services such as multi-room HD DVR capabilities and advanced 3D graphics user interfaces.

The key BCM7125 and BCM7119 features are,

BCM7125: Integrated MoCA 1.1 core, DOCSIS 2.0 compatible modems with 3.0 channel bonding over 4 downstream channels, dual 1GHz cable tuners and 3D user interfaces
BCM7119: Integrated dual 1Ghz cable tuners, 3D user interfaces and DOCSIS 2.0 compatible modems with 3.0 channel bonding over 4 downstream channels
3D graphics engine for an advanced user interface
Dynamic power management controllers that provide a high power efficient ecosystem, capable of shutting down unused system components in real-time and supports Energy Star
Support for the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) Interoperability Guidelines to facilitate the easy sharing of digital content between DLNA-enabled devices.
Support for Tru2Way Cablecard, Native UI, OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP), the Adobe Flash Platform for the Digital Home

Joyce Putscher, Principal Analyst, In-Stat said "Over the next few years, service providers will drive the growth of in-home networks enabling additional services such as multi-room DVR. The growth during the multimedia phase of home networks is being driven by the rapid rise in network-enabled devices; by 2013, the average household will have 2.5x as many digital media devices (computing, gaming, stationary digital consumer electronics, portable and mobile wireless devices) in use as in 2008."
