µC/OS-memory protection unit addition enhances Micrium's µC/OS-II RTOS
Micrium has announced the extension of its µC/OS-II real time OS with the addition of µC/OS-MPU (Memory Protection Unit). This µC/OS-MPU is to protect the µC/OS-II internal memory from task memory areas, and targeting ARM Cortex-M3 CPUs and ARM9 CPU cores in embedded systems.
µC/OS-MPU builds a system with MPU processes, with each containing one or more tasks or threads. Each process has an individual read, write, and execution right. Exchanging data between threads is accomplished in the same manner whether using µC/OS-II or µC/OS-III tasks, however handling across different processes is achieved by the core operating system.
Micrium says, with the µC/OS-MPU add-on, large software blocks can be integrated easily without disturbing the memory of other software segments. The interface is configurable and easy to use, based on adhering to strict coding rules during development, the source code is high efficient in resource usage and certifiable with minimum effort.
The other key features of the µC/OS-MPU are,
Prevents access of forbidden locations
Appropriate for safety-critical applications
Easy integration of protocol stacks, graphical modules, FS libraries
Simplified debugging and error diagnosis
Available for any microcontroller with an MPU
Certification support available
"µC/OS-MPU now features the ability to go even deeper into safety critical applications," said Jean Labrosse, President and CEO of Micrium. "This enhancement makes the memory protection unit much more powerful, yet does not compromise its ease of integration and use," Labrosse added.
