New accelerometer motion sensor sense up to ±6g for use automotive electronics
New MEMS based accelerometer motion sensor AIS226DS from ST Microelectronics can sense the change in vehicle speed/motion to trigger front lights, auto-levelling HID (high-intensity discharge) lamps, inertial brake lights, e-parking brake, advanced anti-theft systems and other devices controlling vehicle dynamics.
The features highlighted by ST Micro on this product is,
AIS226DS is a two-axis in-plane accelerometer capable of greater accuracy than is possible using two individual sensors.
Can sense acceleration up to ±6g
AIS226DS can also resolve tiny angles of incline down to 0.02 degrees for proper operation auto-leveling lamp, e-parking brake, and HSA (Hill Start Aid) applications.
Offer SPI or I2C interface.
Other automotive applications include event recorders for monitoring accidents or abusive driving, and GPS navigation systems using movement data for improved dead reckoning when the satellite signal is lost. Non-automotive applications suggested are, vibration sensing in industrial equipment, black-box security monitors for shipping containers, inclinometers, and robotic systems.
The AIS226DS offers better sensing accuracy due to the high-precision 16-bit analog-to-digital converter inside the chip. AIS226DS maintains accuracy of ±70mg throughout the automotive temperature range -40 to +105 degrees C, offering offset drift in the range of 0.2mg per degree C. AIS226DS is qualified to the AEC-Q100 automotive quality standard.
