Micrel's adaptive on-time controller with high delta-V and can deliver a current of 25 A

Micrel has introduced the MIC2174, a new member of its Hyper Speed Control family of adaptive on-time controllers that provides a high performance, DC-to-DC controller capable of high delta V operation (VIN=40V, VOUT=0.8V) and can drive up to 25A of load current. The Hyper Speed Control architecture reduces the required output capacitance and allows for better transient response. The MIC2174 suitable for industrial equipment power supply, automotive, computer peripherals and distributed DC power system applications.

The MIC2174 operates at 300kHz constant frequency and is stable even with a zero-ESR output capacitor. The MIC2174 Hyper Speed Control DC-to-DC controller operates with an input voltage range of 3V to 40V and also offers cycle-by-cycle current limiting for FET protection. While the UVLO circuitry ensures proper operation under power-sag conditions to prevent the MOSFETs from overheating, the Soft Start feature reduces the inrush current.

"By pushing the maximum input voltage to 40V, applications that require high delta V operation can take advantage of our unique architecture," stated John T. Lee, director of power products, Micrel. "Micrel's unique Hyper Speed Control architecture offers terrific benefits like reduced BOM cost and world class transient response for applications such as industrial equipment, automotive electronics and distributed power systems."
