Industry's first pulse density modulated class-D audio amplifier from ADI

Analog Devices has introduced pulse density modulated class-D audio amp for handset and other portable applications, such as portable media players and laptop computers. Analog Devices claims this is the industry's first PDM (pulse density modulation) digital-input Class D audio amplifier.

The SSM2517 Class D audio amplifier packs an audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter), power amplifier, and a PDM digital interface.

Features and benefits:

Due to audio is transmitted digitally to the SSM2517, the effect of GSM interference or other sources of electrically coupled noise are minimized.
Available in the same size as some existing analog-input Class D amplifiers saving space and BOM cost.
Integrated DAC and sigma-delta modulator architecture minimizes system design challenges by mitigating EMI (electromagnetic interference).
Closed-loop modulator design reduces power supply ripple to enhance audio quality
SSM2517 is 90 percent power efficient.
