New high-bright LED driver with temp control from National semiconductor

National Semiconductor has introduced the new LM3424, a high voltage N-channel MosFET controller for LED drivers that includes a thermal foldback feature for temperature management control. The LM3424 drives high-brightness LEDs and suitable for automotive headlights, high bay warehouse lighting and street lighting applications.

When LED temperatures rise above a safe threshold, the lifetime and efficacy of the LED decreases. With the LM3424, program temperature and slope breakpoints the LEDs operate safely and when an over-temperature condition occurs, the thermal foldback circuitry reduces the regulated current through the LEDs.

The other key features of LM3424 LED driver are,

Operating input voltage range of 4.5V to 75V
PWM and analog dimming, programmable softstart and protection features a low-power and thermal shutdown, cycle-by-cycle current limit.
Drives up to 18 high-brightness LEDs in series with output current above 2A
High-side adjustable current sense
2 Ohms, 1A Peak MosFET gate driver

And the suggested applications include LED Drivers - buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC, Indoor and Outdoor area SSL, General illumination, and Constant-current regulators.
