TI's new isolated CAN transceiver

The new ISO1050 controller-area network (CAN) transceiver from Texas Instruments with electric isolation feature is targeted at industrial automation, motor control and medical equipment. With less loop time this transceiver enables use of longer network cables.

The ISO1050 draws less power compared to isolated optocoupler solutions. The other advantages are small package size very low electromagnetic emissions (EME) supporting sensitive analog applications, such as industrial sensors.

"Customers are being challenged to design more complex industrial systems in smaller spaces," said Art George, senior vice president of TI's High-Performance Analog business unit. "The ISO1050 single-chip isolated CAN solution eases system design and allows engineers to reduce component count and speed time-to-market."

The other key features are,

The capacitive technology in TI isolators provides galvanic isolation of up to 4000 V and life expectancy exceeding 25 years
Meets requirements for the ISO 11898 standard
Meets DeviceNet and CAN timing requirements
Wide temperature range from -55C to 105C
