IR's dual phase IC for multiphase synchronous buck converter

International Rectifier has introduced the IR3527, a new XPhase dual phase IC with independent power savings function for multiphase server applications. The IR3527 IC drives and monitors two phases of a multiphase synchronous buck converter.

The Power State Indicator (PSI) interface provides maximum efficiency at light loads and the IR3527's current sense amplifiers remain active when in power savings mode to support adaptive voltage positioning.

The new Gen3 XPhase device features,

7V/1.3A gate drivers (2.6A GATEL sink current)
Converter output voltage up to 5.1 V (Limited to VCCL-1.4V)
Loss-less inductor current sensing
Feed-forward voltage mode control
Integrated boot-strap synchronous PFET

And the other key features of IR3527 IC are,

Self-calibration of PWM ramp, current sense amplifier, and current share amplifier
Single-wire bi-directional average current sharing
Only three external components per phase, plus common decoupling capacitors
Debugging function isolates phase from the converter
RoHS compliant

And the specifications include,

Current sense method: Inductor DCR
PSI capability: Yes
GateH Source/Sink: 2A/2A
GateL Source/Sink: 2A/4A

"The IR3527 combined with IR's latest generation XPhase control ICs such as the IR3502B, which can interface with any number of IR3527 phase ICs provides a full featured, flexible and cost effective way to implement energy efficient multiphase power solutions that optimize board space," said George Schuellein, marketing director, IR's Multiphase Products, Enterprise Power Business Unit.
